BACKGROUND: Ed's practice has been marked
by broad exposure to and involvement in pre-trial proceedings
and trial of federal and state litigation with emphasis on
complex civil and commercial litigation; including co-counsel
in various complex cases, including federal securities and
antitrust class action litigation; Penn Central Reorganization,
and related cases; Penn Fruit Reorganization; multi-district
federal class-action litigation; state-class action litigation;
Fen-Phen Litigation; co-counsel in Havlish v. Bin-Laden litigation
on behalf of survivors of decedents of the World Trade Center
attacks; representation in appellate matters before the Third
Circuit Court of Appeals, the District of Columbia Circuit
Court of Appeals, the Pennsylvania Superior, Commonwealth,
and Supreme Courts, and the United States Supreme Court, including
the presentation of oral argument to the U.S. Supreme Court
in Flanagan v. U.S., 465 U.S. 259 (1984); general commercial
practice including representation of financial institutions,
corporations, and individuals in both bankruptcy matters and
major financial transactions; defense representation in complex
federal criminal cases, including representation of Philadelphia
City Council President in U.S. v. Schwartz (Abscam prosecution);

years, and as court-appointed arbitrator in both Philadelphia
and Bucks Counties for a period in excess of twenty (20) years,
appointment to serve as an arbitrator in approximately twenty
(20) common law or statutory arbitration proceedings, and
appearances as an expert witness in the Court of Common Pleas
of Bucks County.
Ed is 63 years old and a resident of Springfield Township,
Montgomery County, PA for 32 years. Born and raised in Philadelphia,
he graduated from Central High School and attended Lafayette
College, where he majored in English and graduated with Honors
in 1968. He obtained his law degree in 1972 from The Georgetown
University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where he was an
Editor of The American Criminal Law Review. In addition, while
in Washington, he worked with the United States Attorney’s
Office and as a research Assistant for the U.S. Chiefs of
Police Association.
Following graduation, Ed was selected to serve as a law clerk
to Judge Charles R. Weiner of the United States District Court
in Philadelphia. He then entered private practice, specializing
in the area of trial law. From 1973 to 1976 he handled multi-district
securities, bankruptcy, and business litigation at David Berger,
P.A. From 1976 to 1979, Ed practiced with Wexler, Weisman,
Maurer & Forman, P.C., handling bankruptcy and commercial
litigation. From 1979 to 1984, Ed practiced in partnership
with Richard A. Sprague at the law firm of Sprague & Rubenstone.
During those years, he represented many well-known persons,
including the then-Mayor of Philadelphia, Frank Rizzo, and
then-City Council President George X. Schwartz, a defendant
in the ABSCAM case, and was trial and appellate counsel in
numerous other civil and criminal cases in both the state
and federal courts. In 1983, Ed was afforded the privilege
of presenting a case before the United States Supreme Court.
In 1984, Ed became a founding partner of the law firm of
Groen, Goldberg & Rubenstone, with offices in Bensalem,
PA. Over the years and as a result of a number of personnel
changes and mergers, he is now a senior member of Lamm Rubenstone,
LLC., with offices in Trevose, PA, Allentown, PA, and Cherry
Hill NJ. In his practice, Ed concentrates on litigation, handles
a wide-range of civil, commercial, complex personal injury
and medical negligence cases, and has represented numerous
municipalities and government agencies in a variety of matters.
In addition to the practice of law, Ed served as an Adjunct
Professor of Law at Rutgers University Law School-Camden for
10 years, and at Temple University’s School of Law for three
years. He has also been active in the Bucks County Bar Association,
serving on its Board of Directors, and as Vice-President/President-Elect.
In December of 1997, Ed was elected President of the Bucks
County Bar Association, a position he held for one year. He
is a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun in Elkins Park,
and was a Director of the Congregation for 6 years.
Ed has been married for 35 years to the former Elizabeth
Stein, who is the Director of the Medical Skin Care Division
At Deme, with offices in Philadelphia and Wayne, Pennsylvania.
Ed and Betsy have two children, Michael, 32, and Caren, 30.
